The Gelatin Gambit – Session 2 Recap: Smoke, Skeletons, and a Skull Map

Last night, the crew descended deeper into The Gelatin Gambit, and things got... messy.

We picked up right where we left off: trapped in the dark maze beneath the Academy, locked in by Veena and her smug, smug friends. But the party had changed—leveled up, both literally and narratively.

⚙️ The Crew, Upgraded:

  • Hal had taken on a more advanced, robotic form—sleeker, sharper—and had forged a new robotic companion: a clinking, chirping homunculus.
  • Glorp had matured (slightly), looking more like a real thief now, oozing confidence… and slime.
  • Buff carried his new mithral pistols, inscribed with “F*** STEVE,” now more powerful and more unstable than ever.
  • The Captain’s greatsword now sang like a pirate every time it cleaved through the air.

It should’ve been a triumphant moment.

Instead, they got lost.

🕸️ Into the Maze

The darkness swallowed the crew. They triggered an early trap—thick webs dropped into a hallway, cutting off visibility and slowing their progress. But the real chaos began when The Captain fell into a hidden pit.

30 feet straight down.

Waiting for him? Three goblins.

What followed was a rolling disaster—literally. Buff tried to help from the edge of the pit... and promptly rolled a natural 1. He shot the Captain. Nearly killed him.

The goblins finished the job.

Then Buff shot Hal.

Then Glorp went down.

The scene was absolute carnage. Hal—burning through every resource he had—revived them all with potions and sheer mechanical resolve. The goblins were crushed. But the danger wasn’t done yet.

Into the MAZE!

💀 Then Came the Skeletons

As they gathered themselves, skeletal warriors emerged from the gloom. The fight was fierce, but the crew pulled together, cutting through bone and darkness.

In the aftermath, they found a strange nest, webbed and hidden, containing a skull etched with a map—a map to something ancient.

Etched into the bone:

"The Punchline"

A spelljamming ship, thought lost. Possibly cursed. Definitely important.

🕷️ The Final Fight: Choldrith

The party attempted to escape—but stumbled straight into the Choldrith’s lair.

“You are unworthy of the web. Yet you will feed it.”

The room was a trap—a mass of webs, thick and clinging. Hal lit a dart to track the monster… but rolled a 1 again.

The spark ignited the web.

The entire cavern burst into flame.

Smoke blinded them. Fire scorched them. But in the chaos, they fought like hell. The Choldrith—a spiderlike horror tied to the neogi from Session 1—was finally killed.

But their victory came at a cost.

The webs are gone.
The walls are burned.
The air is thick with smoke.
They can’t see.
They can’t breathe.

🔥 Next Week...

The crew is still alive. Barely.

But they are trapped. Underground. Smoked. Scorched. Wounded.

Will they escape? Or will The Punchline be the last thing they ever read?

Find out next week in Session 3.
