In the Days Before the Flood
A vessel took shape by the will of the Most High.

A fragment of ancient verse

In the days ere the deep was broken,
When the wells of the abyss were yet sealed,
When still the stars watched in their courses,
And the high hills stood proud against the sky—

Lo, in those days did the earth groan with its burdens.

Great were the works of men,
And greater still their pride.

Kings rose and ruled in towers of stone and bronze;
Giants strode the earth with mighty tread;
Altars smoked with blood and fire;
And the voices of the Watchers sang sweet lies in mortal ears.

Kings rose and ruled in towers of stone and bronze

Yet few remembered the Way.
Few hearkened to the Voice beyond the veil.
For the heart of the world was cold, and its light dimmed.

And unseen by kings and seers,
Did the hours begin their count.

A vessel took shape by the will of the Most High.
The Ark was building. The end was nigh.

Yet no man knew the day, nor the hour,
When the heavens would be torn,
And the fountains of the great deep would be loosed,
And the waters cover all.

Nephilim walked abroad, sowing terror and desire.

Then did men strive for power, and gold, and glory.
False prophets cried peace, peace, where there was no peace.
Nephilim walked abroad, sowing terror and desire.
And the earth groaned, and the clock turned still.

The stars grew dim. The beasts grew restless.
The stones themselves whispered of the coming doom.

O sons of the earth—
What shall a man do when the deep is broken?
What legacy shall endure, when all is washed away?

Mark well these things—
For the hour is later than ye think.
